Lake Down the second largest of the lakes in the Butler Chain, is located on Windermere's east border, and Lake Bessie marks Windermere's southeast waterfront boundary.

The Windermere community's success is based factors other than rapid growth. The Town Council intentionally restricted growth and commercialism in Windermere, So today, Windermere's population is still under 2,000 residents. The population of Windermere was counted at around 1,800 in the year 2000 with approximately 545 families as of 1990. They include large corporation CEO's, foreign dignitaries, and professional sports superstars.

Windermere History

Everything in the has a tendency to change with time but the little town of Windermere hasn't much at all throughout it's history, but it's historic town hall has been completely refurbished and many local functions from weddings to social club meetings now take place in its turn of the century interior. Even the streets in old downtown have been left unpaved and get covered with pine straw, and Windermere homeowners intend to keep things as they are.

Windermere Housing

Waterfront living in Windermere is an experience to relish in. Windermere's unique logistical situation with Lake Butler's entire east shore making Windermere's western border and Lake Down's western shoreline is most of the town's eastern edge with Lake Bessie lining the neighborhood's southeast side, lends itself well to the development of exclusive neighborhoods. The newer residential communities in and around Windermere are some of the most expensive in the country,  containing a selection of exquisite housing styles, including fine custom homes valued at a starting price tag of $250,000, and elegant mansions, either on waterfront lots or off lakefront property available for your ultimate real estate acquisition and a truly enchanting place to buy your next home.

Windermere Lifestyle

Both Windermere's newly relocated homebuyers and long time homeowners are very proud of the simple charm of this little town and aim to preserve the high quality of life that exists in a small town which is also close to the opportunities and amenities that homeowners expect of a larger city. This high quality of life is Windermere's most distinguishing and attractive feature. Much of Windermere's downtown area is historically preserved, and the neighborhoods are situated amid  natural and pleasant surroundings. Most of Windermere  streets are unpaved in deference, in order to retain the pristine nature of the chain of lakes that surround the community.

Windermere Nature

Windermere was recently named "Tree City U.S.A." because the city is commitment to preserving the natural environment that surrounds the city such as the pristine, sand bottom, Butler Chain lakes. The Butler Chain's clear water may it one of the best places in Florida to sight fish in their natural habitat. Windermere is far enough away from city of Orlando that fireflies are visible among the trees on a warm summer night.
